You can fly to both Aberdeen & Inverness from all major UK airports as well as an increasing number of regional airports and some European airports. Aberdeen is about 60 miles away (allow 1½ hours driving time to be safe) and has more flights than Inverness, which is some 30 miles away (allow 45 mins). Car hire is available at both airports, and from Aberdeen there are regular bus services and rail connections.

Both Inverness & Aberdeen are served by mainline rail services with direct services from London and other major centres operated by Arriva Cross Country & National Express East Coast. First Scotrail run services from Glasgow & Edinburgh and also the connecting services from both cities to our nearest station, Forres (3 miles - taxis available at the station).

Head for Perth from either Glasgow or Edinburgh, then take the A9 to Inverness. Turn right along the A96 to Forres & Burgie is 3 miles further on. (It is possible to cut across the moors from Aviemore via Grantown; whilst this is a very scenic route, it is not recommended for large vehicles.) Alternatively, from Edinburgh head north to Dundee and then up the A90 to Aberdeen. This gives you dual carriageway all the way to Aberdeen, but crossing the city is often slow, especially slow during rush hours.
There are bus services to both Inverness & Aberdeen with connections (Route 10) along the A96 which pass the Burgie road end. (Although Route 305 also runs between Inverness & Aberdeen and passes Burgie, this service takes the coastal route which is very scenic but very slow!) |
